Tallaght Cross Hotel

tallaghtroomLest you be confused by the address on this hotel, the Tallaght Cross Hotel is not, in fact, in Dublin. It is (depending on the reviews you find online) somewhere between 20 and 40 minutes from downtown Dublin on the LUAS red line, which stops conveniently a few steps from the hotel’s front door.

Yes, it is a bit of a journey in to the city center, and if you are planning lots of late-night drinking excursions around Temple Bar you will want to spend the extra money and stay in a more central location (not least because the LUAS stops running at 12:30PM), but if you do not plan any late nights out and want to save a little on your accommodation, this could be just the hotel for you.

tallaghtbarThe Tallaght Cross has 186 rooms and is only 500 meters from the main shopping area in Tallaght, so it is not as if it is a hotel in the middle of nowhere with nothing around it. All rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen satellite TVs and internet access. There is a bar and a cafe-style restaurant on site, called “V Bar” and “Brasserie Orange” respectively, and lots of typical business hotel amenities.

Though the three-star Tallaght Cross Hotel is well-connected to Dublin’s city center via the LUAS system, if you are driving your own car there is secure on-site parking at the hotel and it is easy to reach. And if you need a break from sight-seeing, there are opportunities near the hotel to go golfing, go swimming, and even take a yoga class!

So, while this hotel is not right in the center of Dublin, it is rated highly by former guests on a popular travel website, and it can be an economical choice – especially if you are booking late and all the central hotels are full or too expensive!
