Irish Times digital archive online

Irish times digital archiveThe Irish Times has just finished digitizing its microfiche archive and has released 150 years of Irish news online.

Now at www.ireland.com/search you can read about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, the 1916 rising in Dublin or either of the world wars.

There is a catch, viewing the archive costs €10 for a 24-hour pass and an annual pass is €395 for a year. You can purchase a print of any particular front page for €50 (€85 framed).

Fascinating that a year’s subscription to look at the archival papers costs the same as if you bought the modern Irish Times every day for a year.

This might be of interest to visitors who wish to look up any ancestors who may have been in the news or wish to read local Irish accounts of the past century’s emmigrations.
