Nuclear giveaway in the Irish Sea

Greenpeace boats monitor a nuclear shipmentSo I’m a little squeamish when it comes to matters of things nuclear.

I may have mentioned this in a previous post about Athlone being threatened by nuclear fallout or when Sellafield, the nuclear power plant across the Irish sea, sprung a leak recently.

Well, the Irish green party (the inherent redundancy in those words makes me chuckle every time) has cautioned that a shipment of radioactive material due to be shipped across the Irish sea from Sellafield to Switzerland is in danger due to the fact that it’s traveling unreinforced, unarmed and unguarded.

Basically, it’s up for grabs.

Um, folks – the green party is basically urging military intervention here . . . as far as I can recall, that’s not exactly a normal thing for them. Soooo, if the tree-hugging hippies are willing to get in bed with the military, don’t you think they must have some legitimate cause for concern? Why are the greens the only ones worried here? I mean, their normal fears of ocean pollution are no less legitimate with or without an armed escort – the concern must be over this shipment falling not into the ocean, but into the wrong hands.

Hello?

In case no one is listening: THERE’S A FREAKIN BOAT OF UNGUARDED NUCLEAR MATERIAL FLOATING IN THE IRISH SEA. FOR FECK’S SAKE, WON’T SOMEONE GO KEEP AN EYE ON IT.

Thank you, that will be all.
