Plan a Short Break in Dublin

For many visitors, Dublin is the gateway to Ireland. Most international flights from the US land here  – airfare to Dublin tends to be cheaper than to other spots in Ireland – , and cheap flights from Europe also often arrive in Dublin. Yet, many people still spend very little time in the city, preferring instead to visit the smaller towns of Ireland’s countryside.

While the countryside of Ireland is indisputably beautiful, Dublin still has its own allure. If you’ve only got a few days in Ireland, base yourself out of Dublin, and if you’re arriving or departing from the city, be sure to spend at least a few days here on your way in or out.

There are lots of things to do in Dublin, like visiting the Guinness Storehouse, Jameson Distillery, and Trinity College. Even if you only have two days in Dublin, you can still cover quite a lot of ground and see more most the major attractions. If you have more time, you can plan a few day trips from Dublin, to nearby castles, gardens, and small towns. There are lots of cheap Dublin hotels, and it’s easy to get around the city by foot, so you can use the money you save for more dining, sightseeing, and of course, a few extra pints of Guinness.
