Drinking in the streets?

phoenix festival in tullamoreI was just listening to the radio and, apparently, Tullamore has decided to rescind the ban on public drinking for their Phoenix Festival this weekend.

Hmm - should be an interesting social experiment. I can recall some excellent, inebriated outdoor activities back home - the Castro Halloween party in San Francisco with cans of beer being sold by enterprising locals from ice-water-filled trash cans on the street comes to mind . . . that is, of course, banned now.

In any case, the Phoenix Festival is quite an affair, featuring a load of local art, theatre and workshops in addition to live music, children’s activities and the more exotic entertainments like bungee jumping and sky diving. I wonder at what altitude the public drinking laws would normally cease to apply?

The Phoenix Festival’s website is www.festival.ie
