This Sunday’s session in Sean’s bar was a bit different with the Amber Moon components on their Texan holiday.
Podge, damsel, hardy and gib put in the time, though. Some really great tunes were the order of the day. Gib is an impressive multi-instrumentalist nowadays, trading easily between fiddle and guitar, demonstrating an adept command of each.
It’d been a while since I’d seen Podge play and, as always, he pulled out new and unexpected tunes. At some point in the session I asked whether he was back playing regularly and he explained he was making the move to Moscow next month (!!). Athlone’s music scene will be the less for his absence.
