Traditional Irish music session in Bar Metro, AthloneThere’s a new session in town, children.

In one of the more unlikely settings (to my mind), a trad session with box accordian, guitar and bodhran has started up on Monday nights in Bar Metro in Athlone. I’m usually AWOL on a Monday as it’s a late working day (night!) for me, but for some reason I was bouncing off the walls at around 10.30pm so I tipped down with the old goatskin and was rewarded with a quiet, acoustic session for my efforts.

The brand-spanking-new stainless steel, mirrors and neon interior of the bar really seems an odd place for trad, but hey - don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it.

I have something pretty great for an mp3 from this session. I’d spent part of my weekend making new tippers for the bodhran and got a chance to try one of them out with the session player in this bodhran duet.

Enjoy!
