Flights to Shannon International Airport

Although most tourists to Ireland still come through the airport in Dublin first, more and more people are getting flights to Shannon International Airport (airport code SNN) - it is Ireland’s second busiest airport after Dublin. In 2007, more than 3.6 million people passed through Shannon’s airport. And what, you may ask, is the reason for all this traffic?

The answer is simple: Ryanair.

Ryanair, one of Europe’s largest budget airlines, is Shannon’s biggest carrier. In fact, fully 60% of the people taking flights to Shannon International Airport are doing so on Ryanair. Ireland’s national airline, Aer Lingus, also maintains a hub in Shannon.

Most of the flights to Shannon International Airport come from cities in the United Kingdom, or from across the Atlantic Ocean. Shannon’s airport is lucky to have pre-border clearance with the United States, which makes it easy for US travelers heading back home from Shannon to speed through customs upon their return. It is only one of two European airports with these pre-border clearance facilities.

Aside from Ryanair and Aer Lingus, you can take a look at all the other airlines serving Shannon’s airport on this page, to help you figure out which airlines you should look at for your tickets.
