The wearin’ o’ the green

shamrock-shaped egg frying panYes folks, it won’t be long now.

The day when all the world is Irish and people everywhere do silly, silly things all in the name of Ireland. Poor old St Patrick.

Anyway, here in Ireland we are certainly not immune to the americanization of the holiday. Instead of a quiet national saints day where pubs and shops close, we get out there and give ‘em their green beer and giant foam shamrocks just like everyone else.

I see the local shops gearing up for the holiday by stocking the tri-colour and loads of “Oyrish” paraphenalia. The photo on the left there has GOT to take the cake for most absurd St Patrick’s day accoutrement: a frying pan that fries your egg in the shape of a shamrock.

Oh. Good. Lord.

A shamrock egg! Neat! I wondered whether Ireland celebrated St. Patrick’s Day the way he would like or not.

What are your plans, Sean?
