Monkey Nuts

monkey nutsYou may not have believed me without the accompanying picture, but peanuts in Ireland are also called “monkey nuts.”

I felt about 13 years old when I saw this sign proudly hung out the front of a local grocer today.

Monkey nuts (I just love that I can call them that) are a real halloween, sorry, samháin, thing in Ireland, and most of the major stores would be, in a fascinating confusion of cultural influences, selling plastic plastic pumpkins full of monkey nuts. Can I, possibly, stick a few more, um, commas, in my, eh, sentences?

Ya, think?

Monkey nuts. *giggle*

Do they sell boiled monkey nuts? Those go really well with bourbon.
