Mad weather in Athlone on Paddy’s weekend

What you see above are two photos taken just minutes apart from each other. Falling snow is hard to photograph, but the snowfall in the left picture was so heavy I couldn’t believe it didn’t stick (the little photo there doesn’t do it justice, it has to be said). Had it stuck, the warm, brilliant sunlight that emerged just seconds afterwards surely would have melted it.

This kind of psychotic weather continued throughout the weekend, alternatively soaking and warming the town.
