Athlone Tidy Town?

The hard-working folk you see above there in their wellies are the Athlone Tidy Town committee doing their annual clean-up of the banks of the Shannon - fair play to ye, lads!

In addition to sludge, beer cans, general rubbish and the occasional waterfowl carcass this year’s crew managed only two shopping trollies - down one from last year, I’m sure!

Speaking of rubbish around Athlone, I’m really keen to see if the shards of glass and rubbish I complained about last April (seriously - the shards are a bit ground down by pedestrians, but the mess is still there!) will be gone by tomorrow . . .
